Wendell Castle (1932-2018), Games Table, Walnut & Curly Maple, initialled & dated 1974
This is a rare design, which is illustrated in the catalogue raisonée (see below).
The table is constructed in walnut with a stunning curly maple inset top, featuring dovetail joints to the corners descending on elegant shaped legs to pointed toes. Two opposing sides have a drawer. It is believed this was intended as a games table, so the drawers would be perfect for cards, however it could equally serve as a centre table or even a small dining table.
The craftsman’s monogram and date are incised to the underside: WC 74.
In very good condition.
