Early all-original example of the famous Eames Rocking (R) Armchair (A) on Rod (R) base, very early 1950s example with seafoam green shell in moulded plastic zenaloy (fibreglass reinforced plastic) made by Zenith with rope edge, on an Eiffel design zinc plated support and birch wood rockers.
Seafoam green is the most desirable of the colour range brought out by Herman Miller in the early 1950s. The rope edge and large shock mounts date the chair to pre-1952. The different types of bases designed by Eames were intended to be interchangeable and the chair can easily be disassembled for shipping.
The shell is in good original condition, commensurate with age and careful use, and the supporting structure is sound. There is an impact gouge to the back of one of the birch rockers but this does not detract from overall appearance.
