The Lounge Chair and Ottoman, model 670/671, designed by Charles and Ray Eames in 1956, is one of the most iconic pieces of twentieth-century furniture design. Produced by Herman Miller, the chair combines comfort, craftsmanship, and modern technology. Its design features moulded plywood shells, padded leather cushions, and a distinctive aluminium base. The chair and ottoman were developed as a contemporary interpretation of a traditional English club chair, offering a luxurious yet relaxed seating experience. The use of curved plywood demonstrates the Eameses’ innovative approach to materials and manufacturing. The Lounge Chair and Ottoman remains a landmark of modernist design and is widely recognised for its timeless aesthetic.
