La Cité de Refuge is a building in Paris which was designed by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret for The Salvation Army. It still stands as a milestone in the evolution of modernist architecture, with its open plan design and mechanised ventilation system which aimed to protect inhabitants from the polluted Paris air.
The building, one of Le Corbusier’s first urban housing projects, was designated a National Historical Monument of France in 1975
