Stunning deep bowl by Jennifer Lee (British, born 1956).

This hand-built coloured stoneware bowl with oxide burnished on the surface is entitled by the artist ‘Dark with Amber Rim’, reference JL158, and was created in 1989.

Soon after its creation, the artist recalls that it was exhibited at two German galleries: Galerie Marianne Heller, Heidelberg and Galerie Handwerk, Munich

Born in Scotland, Lee trained at the Royal College of Art in London, before on embarking on a series of travels to research and practice different ceramic techniques. She has developed a method of colouring them by mixing metallic oxides into the clay before hand-building them. Her work is represented in major public collections worldwide, including the Victoria & Albert Museum, London and the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and in 2019 Kettle’s Yard in Cambridge held a solo exhibition of her ceramics and drawings.

The bowl measures 14.8cm high and 18cm diameter. The artist’s mark is on the base. Condition is excellent and the bowl has a lovely ‘ring’.
