Pair of Hueter lounge chairs by Sam Maloof, circa 1954

American walnut with dovetail joints, the interior of each frame branded designed-made/MALOOF/california

Newly upholstered in Pierre Frey fabric, cream bouclé wool with brown leather buttons. In very good condition.

Sam Maloof (1916 – 2009) began designing and hand making custom furniture in the 1950s.. His innovative designs and exquisite workmanship soon made him one of America’s most renowned furniture craftsman. Examples of his work can be found in the collections of major American museums including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

We have received confirmation from the Sam and Alfreda Maloof Foundation that these chairs are likely to be some of the earliest examples of the Hueter chair produced by Maloof, before he developed the design with an extended back rail.
