Charlotte Perriand (1903-1999)
Cansado Sideboard
produced by Steph Simon in France, circa 1958

Charlotte Perriand was commissioned to design furniture for apartments in Cité Cansado, a town designed according to Modernist principles for use by the workers at an iron ore mining company in Mauritania, Africa.

Constructed in a deep rich mahogany with black and white sliding laminate doors and a bank of four drawers, on a steel base, this is a stunning example of Perriand’s ability to combine her modernist principles with Eastern aesthetics.

This is a genuine example of Perriand’s work, which came to us in poor condition. Our craftsmen have sensitively restored it to its former glory and we will be happy to provide the purchaser with full record of the restoration process, including images of taken before and during the process.
