This iconic chair is made of moulded fibreglass covered in the original vibrant yellow tweed fabric upholstery, and supported in a cage of vertical nickel coated steel rods welded to horizontal and edge forming rods. The cushion is secured in place with velcro. Knoll International labels to both seats and cushions which confirm the date of production as October 1972. The base of the chair seat has a black rubber panel stamped Elasta Seat.
Warren Platner (1919-2006) was an architect who worked on projects alongside Eero Saarinen, Raymond Loewy and I. M. Pei. However it was the collection of furniture he designed for Knoll International in the 1960s which earned him worldwide fame.
This chair and ottoman are in good original condition, and structurally sound, subject to slight wear to the fabric in line with age and use.
