Gio Ponti (Italian 1891-1979)
Walnut Flip Top Console/Dining Table
Model 2134 for Singer & Sons, 1950s
The brass hinged top above a shaped frieze, raised on tapering legs joined by an H-form stretcher and brass sabot feet
163.5cm wide
When closed for use as a console, the height is 75cm and the depth 48cm. When the top is opened up for use as a dining table, the height is 73cm and the depth 96cm.
This ingenious design creates a multi-purpose piece of furniture, which can be used either as console table or doubled in size to form a dining table.
M. Singer & Sons were New York high-end furniture makers and retailers who worked with prominent Italian modernist designers in the 1950s, including Gio Ponti, Carlo Mollino, and Ico Parisi, importing their designs to sell to the American market.
The wood is in beautiful condition, and the piece is ready to use.
