Axel Salto, Large Ceramic Bowl, model 20729, for Royal Copenhagen, 1965
Axel Salto (1889-1961) worked for Royal Copenhagen throughout the 1930s-50s, designing ceramics with relief patterns and ornamentations which would be a “machine for the glaze” and allow him to trial different glazing techniques.
The exterior of this large and impressive bowl is covered in intertwined branches in relief and a ‘Sung’ glaze. It measures 26.5cm diameter and 10.5cm high and is in excellent condition.
The Royal Copenhagen marks on the base date the bowl to 1965, and the designer’s signature is also etched.
