Original vintage Mantis floor light, model BS1B, designed by Bernard Schottlander and manufactured by J T Kalman, Vienna, circa 1956
Black enamelled aluminium shade on a white enamelled steel arm and foot.
161cm high, 65cm wide, 137cm deep.
Inspired by Alexander Calder, this lamp was designed by Schottlander in 1956. It is adjustable and rotatable, with five pins at the base to change the rake of the lamp and the shade can be swivelled.
In good original condition, commensurate with age and use.
Schottlander left Austria as the 2nd world war was starting and studied sculpture in England before designing a range of lights in the 1950s.
